Alaşehir ve çevresi tarih öncesi dönemlerden itibaren yerleşmelere açık bir bölgedir. Bulunduğu konum nedeniyle, verimli topraklara ve su kaynaklarına sahip olması cazip hale gelmesine neden olmuştur. Burada Bergama Kralı II. Attalos tarafından Tmolos Dağı eteklerinde Philadelphia kenti kurulmuştur. Stratejik bir konuma sahip olan Philadelphia, Roma döneminde de önemini korumuştur. Ayrıca İncil’de bahsi geçen yedi kiliseden birinin de burada bulunması Kilise tarihi açısından da önemlidir.

Alasehir and its surroundings have been suitable for settlement since prehistoric times. Thanks to its location, fertile soil and water resources, the region has become attractive for settlement. The city of Philadelphia was established here by the Attalus II, King of Pergamon, on the skirts of Mount Tmolos. Philadelphia, which had a strategic position, also sustained its importance during the Roman period. The fact that one of the seven churches mentioned in the Bible found here is also important in terms of the history of the church.
