Investigation of Primary and Secondary School Students' Attitudes towards Science Festivals in Terms of Different Variables (İstanbul Case)

Although the emergence and use of information is quite rapid today, the effective use of information in daily life has come to the fore rather than the production of information. With this coming to the fore, activities for high-level thinking began to take place in schools, and one of these activities was science festivals. The aim of the research is to examine the attitudes of primary and secondary school students towards science festivals according to the variables of "gender, school level and participation in science and art center". A total of 324 primary and secondary school students, 120 girls and 204 boys, studying in the Anatolian side of Istanbul, participated in the research. The research data were collected using the "Personal Information Form" and the "Science Festival Attitude Scale (SCI)". Explanatory and descriptive statistics were applied to the obtained data. It has been observed that primary and secondary school students' attitudes towards science festivals show significant differences in different sub-dimensions of SCI according to the variables of "gender, school level and participation in science and art center". Within the framework of the results reached, the results can be shared with the coordinators who organize science festivals at the primary and secondary school level, and it can be ensured that studies are carried out to examine the attitude towards science festivals and to carry out the necessary activities. In addition, qualitative studies can be carried out to examine the reasons for the attitude towards science festivals and contribute to the literature.
