Toy Design as Social Responsibility Project

Collective Act course is an elective course focusing on the collective and social aspects of the design and aiming to produce social responsibiltiy design projects that meet the needs of the society. The main key feature of the course is to analyze the needs of local environments in order to create an interactive adn interdisciplinary design project. In this course structure, 18 children who are in need were chosen and were asked to draw a picture of their dream toys. The pictures turned into 3D design objects, manufactured at the workshop area and given to 18 children as report cards gift. In the frame of this course, we aimed to develop the relationship between designer and person in need. At the same time, design students learned how to work collaboratively with other disciplines in order to meet the needs of the chosen people in need by the design project. The students also learned how to set steps to work achieving them and solve problems during design process. At the end of the term, they gained skills to make time and self management to finalize the project.
