The phenomenon of environmental desertification and the role of the international community in protecting it (Iraq as a model)
The phenomenon of desertification is today a preoccupation for the international community, because of its great dangers to the environment, as it is embodied in the negative imbalance in the natural and biological balance of the soil in a place, and that this occurs as a result of the interaction of a group of factors that lead to the deterioration of the soil reserves, and it may lose Its natural properties partially or completely over the passage of time, and then turn from natural lands to desert lands, and may constitute a source of threat to the lands adjacent to it. As a result of the continuous deterioration, the lands lose their resistance to erosion factors, which leads to a decrease in organic matter and moisture, the fading of natural plants and the disappearance of wild animals, and the loss of the technical surface layers of the soil with nutrients, in addition to a decrease in the biological activity of the soil.

ظاهرة تصحر البيئة ودور المجتمع الدولي في حمايتها (العراق أنموذجاً)
إنّ ظاهرة التصحر تشكل اليوم الشغل الشاغل للمجتمع الدولي ، لما لها من مخاطر جمة على البيئة ، إذ إنها تتجسد بالخلل السلبي في التوازن الطبيعي والبايلوجي للتربة في مكان ما ، وإن ذلك يحدث بسبب تداخل عدد من العوامل التي تؤدي إلى تدهور في خواص التربة ، وقد تفقد خواصها الطبيعية بصورة جزئيه او كاملة على مرور الزمن ،وتتحول بعد ذلك من أراضي طبيعية إلى أراضي صحراوية ، وقد تشكل مصدر تهديد للأراضي المجاورة لها . ونتيجة للتدهور المستمر تفقد الأراضي مقاومتها لعوامل التعرية ، مما يؤدي ذلك إلى نقص في المواد العضوية والرطوبة ، وتلاشي النباتات الطبيعية واختفاء الحيوانات البرية ، وفقدان التربة لطبقاتها السطحية الفنية بالعناصر الغذائية ، علاوة عن انخفاض النشاط البايولوجي للتربة.
