Türkiye’de Liman Şehirlerinin Gelişimi: Ard Bölge ve Ticari Ağlar

Liman şehirleri ticaretin etkisiyle değişim ve dönüşümün mekanı olarak kabul edilirler. İki büyük iç deniz Karadeniz ve Akdeniz’in kıyılarında yer alan Anadolu şehirleri, dünyanın en işlek ve canlı ticaret yollarının kesiştiği şehirlerdir. Coğrafi konumlarının avantajlarını kullanarak gelişen İstanbul, İzmir ve Trabzon başlıca liman şehirleri olarak Osmanlı Devleti’nin ana ticari merkezleriydi. Bu şehirlerin gelişmesinde deniz ticareti baskın ekonomik unsuru oluştururken, aynı zamanda sosyo-kültürel yapılarının oluşumunda da etkiliydi. Her dönemde modernleşmenin ve değişimin merkezi olan liman şehirleri, ard bölgeleri ve ticari ağlarıyla diğer bölgelerdeki şehirler için ekonomik kanal görevi görmüş, iç bölgelerin dünyaya açılan kapıları durumuna gelmiştir. Deniz ticareti bu şehirlerin yapısal ve ekonomik olarak değişimini sağlarken, süreç içinde yükseliş ve gerileme dönemleri yaşamalarına da neden olmuştur. Liman şehirleri devletin bir aynasıdır: Şehirlerin değişimi, tarihsel olarak Osmanlı Devleti’nin ekonomik, siyasi, sosyal ve kültürel yapısını da yansıtır. Çalışmada 19.yy.da Türkiye’de liman şehirleri olarak öne çıkan İstanbul, İzmir ve Trabzon’un denizcilik etkinlikleriyle gelişimleri, coğrafi ve ekonomik olarak liman şehri özellikleri incelenerek ard bölgeleriyle bağlantıları ve ticari ağları arşiv belgeleri üzerinden açıklanmıştır.

Development of the Port Cities in Turkey: Hinterland and Networks

Port cities are admitted as a place of change and transformation by the effect of trade. The Anatolian cities, which are on the shores of two large inland seas the Mediterranean and the Black Sea, are the intersection of the most busiest and vibrant trade routes of the world. Istanbul, Izmir and Trabzon, which were developed by using the advantages of their geographical locations, were the commercial centers of the Ottoman State as the main port cities. In the development of these cities, maritime trade was the dominant economic element and at the same time, it was affecting on the formation of the socio-cultural structures of the cities. The port cities, which are the modernization/exchange center in every period, have served as an economic channel for the other cities by its hinterlands and networks and became the gateway to the world of inner regions. While the maritime trade changed the structure and economy of these cities, it also caused to periods of rising and falling. Furthermore the port cities were a mirror of the state: the change of cities reflects the economic and social structures of the Ottoman State. In this study, an attempt has been made to explain by archival documents the port city features and its connections with hinterlands as geographically and economically; the developments of maritime activities of Istanbul, Izmir and Trabzon which were stand out as the port cities in the Turkey in the 19th century.
